Discord Username: Swirlby#3737
Ckey: Swirlby
Time Zone: Central Time Zone
Position applied for: Admin
Relevant Administration Experience (if applicable): I've been an admin on the old Bastion of Hestia server, as well as a game assistant on Skyrats.
Qualifications: I do know a bit, as Bastion of Hestia has a similar codebase. It has been some time since then, but I won't be starting from scratch.
Why do you wish to be a staff member?: This is currently my favorite SS13 server, and I want to make it better. In addition to staff, I'm also going to start making contributions on Github. I've also had several experiences where the only staff available has been T308 and an inexperienced moderator, so it feels like the time I'm active is short on staff. (I'm frequently active on weekdays during lowpop.)
What are your principles regarding the job you apply for, and the players in the community you are volunteering to serve?: After my last experience as a game assistant on Skyrats, I decided that I wouldn't apply for a staff position on a server unless I both really enjoyed the server, and was very active on it. Sojourn meets those requirements.
I don't want to strictly enforce the rules everywhere like powertripping admins I've met on other servers, and I also don't want to be overly inconsistent in rulings. I really enjoy this server's approach to staff actions, where you keep everything IC. It feels like a more refined version of BoH.
Three most played characters: Rosko Dubravkovic, Phillip Saddler (I don't really have any others actively played right now, but I do want to make a Soteria focused character soon)

Hi,
Are you applying for admin or for moderator? Asking as we have divisions in administrative roles on the server from moderator, to admin, to headmin (and technically there is dev-mod)

I'm applying for admin, specifically. If you think I need to spend time as a moderator before that, then that's fine.

Right, posting my stance here for easy logging.
First, standard staff protocol is to become moderator first, and serve time to gain the rank of admin. That would have to be done here.
Next, some unofficial complaints have come in due to this applicant's behavior. That said, in my own review these complaints are about the applicant's opinions and views on things, and their stating of such. While the views are what some may consider "extreme" they are entitled to them, so long as they express them in a way that is conductive to creating a useful commentary or discourse. Some of their past statements fail this regard but it's hardly enough to deny a staff application for.
Notably though, if they are approved for staff, they will need to be mindful of what they say and do, as well as how they act. Staff are free to have opinions but should keep them separate from their staff duties, and to not by biased by them. There is also the issue of speaking about these things while a member of staff, as it is excessively hard to indicate you speak for yourself, and your own opinions once allowed to be a member representing staff as a whole. All of these issues can be discussed in detail if the application gets accepted, as I think they are resolvable.
Lastly, in terms of behavior, as I have been requested to give a comment on this, this applicant is good in terms of IC behavior, though has had some minor OOC complaints. As for their ability to be administrative staff, I have no idea of course, and can give no statement on their ability.

Alright, I'll be extra careful to keep my opinions to myself if I am chosen for staff. I have other places I can express them, and I understand I'll be held to a higher standard. I genuinely like the server as it is, and the direction it's going, and I wouldn't want to ruin that for myself by speaking out of turn.REDALERT wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 3:45 pm Right, posting my stance here for easy logging.

Re: Staff App for Swirlby
Hello,
I've been debating the application over and received some feedback. I'm giving this a very hesitant 'lets give it a whirl'. I know you have staffed elsewhere, and most complaints I've received are just on behavior.
I will note - this is your only warning on such behavior. I am only accepting this based on a recommendation and the lack of clear reasoning against in the concerns I was voiced.
Hopefully I do not regret this decision. Your staff-status should be updated soon.
